Goodbye 2013…

Congratulations to May and I ! This is our 400th post on Mama Lewis. Thanks for reading and happy holidays! To say I’m done with 2013 is an understatement. If someone offered me a lobotomy tomorrow and said, “We can remove 2013, but we’d have to remove everything, not just from about April when May’s hips began to really trouble her. You’d have to erase everything. May’s birthday at Kew Gardens. Your fun day at the London Zoo. Everything.” I’d say, “How soon can you cut me open?” Many people like to look at the positive side to...

Kids All Access… Hampton Court Palace

As if our children don’t already feel like royalty, why not treat them like it! And, so it was that I celebrated my 40th birthday properly. Not rushed in a quick meal down the road. Not rushed with a toast over dinner sitting in front of the television. I took myself and my family and friends and stayed in a palace, Hampton Court Palace, for the weekend. Children pick up on the atmosphere of their parents. May, too. She has a long history of sensing negative situations. I worried that the kids wouldn’t enjoy it, because after all – despite what I said above, I would...

May at 10 months old (Never before published post!)

In a bit of end of year housekeeping, I unearthed this post from February 2010. May would only have been 10 months old. Why I didn’t publish it? No idea. It encapsulates so much of what I felt then, perhaps it was too raw. Regardless, I love it because memory is a fickle friend. I always wonder: was it really that bad? And, likewise, was it really that good? How could it have possibly been so good? This post covers all of that. Unedited and raw. Mama Lewis 2010. ____________________________ OPC (Other People’s Children) Do you know that everywhere I go, there seem to be children...

We interrupt your normal service to bring you…

…Ieuan! Unfortunately, May has spent the last three days (and nights, let’s not forget the nights) teething. It is so bad that she is refusing almost all liquids. We have gotten 1 1/2 seizure doses down her of the last four. And, tonight, I noticed part of her gum was bleeding. So, no drinking, no eating, lots of crying (both of us) and no Christmas. We have yet to open our gifts. For this reason, I have zero photos of May in what was meant to be her Christmas outfit. I can assure you it is adorable, if unworn. She did manage her Christmas pajamas, but we have no photos of those....

I think I’m a bit of a hypocrite

Ever since I started writing on Mama Lewis, I’ve begged people to treat me no different because I am the parent of a disabled child. It hasn’t worked. I didn’t expect it would, but I tried anyway. There are still people who write in to me on a regular basis who I’m sure do it because they feel it is a public service. And, of course, there are very few people who write in to tell me they are insulted or horrified by anything I say. Either everything I write, all my opinions – even all my photos – are wonderful, or people feel too uncomfortable to tell me...
